Working on a superyacht is undoubtedly hard work but it can also be a very rewarding experience. After all, the crew gets to travel to some of the most fantastic regions of the world when aboard a superyacht whilst learning valuable skills in the process.
Travelling to so many different regions also comes with its own set of challenges. For instance, crew members that originate from places such as New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa sometimes have a hard time dealing with European bureaucracy. Unfortunately, this includes access to necessities such as cost effective mobile communications.
The problems
There are several issues faced by crew members who wish to get a reliable mobile contract, with those coming from outside of Europe facing additional difficulties. Those who do not have a permanent address in a European country of choice, or at least an official document like a residency permit are almost always rejected in their applications for mobile contracts.
As such, crew members are very limited in their choices for mobile solutions. They can choose to sign up for a contract on their home country and pay roaming fees which are often exorbitant, or get a pay-as-you-go package that is equally or more expensive, or buy local sims when in port.
A solution by RoamingExpert
RoamingExpert, a company with more than 15 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, has offered a simple solution for the above issues: a tariff for crew members which covers them in multiple European countries.
The 30-day rolling contract runs at £37.50 per month (inc UK VAT) and includes unlimited calls and texts between European countries, as well as 10GB of data. Calls to countries outside Europe cost 30p per minute.
The unlimited calls and text can be used in any of the inclusive countries meaning crew members do not have to change between SIM cards or pay excessive fees when roaming abroad and can maintain just one contact number.
Importantly, RoamingExpert does not have a fair use policy. Users are simply alerted by email when they have reached half of their data allowance. The user then has the option to have their data capped or add an additional bundle to cover usage for the rest of the month.
RoamingExpert have made their tariff easily accessible to crew with a simple online sign up via their website (www.roamingexpert.yachts/crew-tariffs). A SIM card and welcome pack are then delivered within 24-48 hours.
Rest of the World
RoamingExpert’s world tariff also has detailed costs on data usage, calls, and texts in countries outside the European zone. These are all detailed in RoamingExpert’s website and its representatives are always ready to discuss these plans in detail, along with any concerns that potential and existing users might have.
