May 31st – It was a warm day that started out cloudy and then the sun decided to join us. Last night we had a great dinner with a number of Loopers: Steve & Teresa (Sanctuary), Scott & Karen (Last Call), Dave & Colleen (Moon Shadow), Kurt & Patti (The Enterprise) and Pat & Cathy (Southern Cross) followed by a birthday cake for Steve – Happy Birthday Steve! The birthday boy used the marina’s courtesy vehicle to pick us up and drop us off at the dingy dock so we could avoid the intermittent showers. In the morning we headed into the dingy dock with Scott and Karen and spent a good chunk of the day at the US Naval Academy campus including its chapel with John Paul Jones’ crypt as well as the on campus museum. All that exercise helped us burn enough calories to allow us to load up at a restaurant called “Chick and Ruth’s Delly” … the available portion sizes are Flintstone like. They have a milkshake with 6 lbs of ice cream and a 3 lb burger as well as many other extra large items. Mark and Karen (Captains Choice) arrived in Annapolis today and met us at the restaurant. Afterwards we returned to the boat and met on “Last Call” to plan our outing tomorrow in Washington DC.
Jun 1st – It was a warm sunny day with moderate winds. We stayed on our Annapolis mooring ball today and got up extra early to catch a bus with “Last Call” and “Captains Choice” to Washington DC. We did plenty of walking and visited the Library of Congress, US Capitol, The old Post Office which is now the Trump Hotel, The Whitehouse and many monuments and memorials including the Washington Monument, Lincoln monument, Vietnam Veterans memorial, etc. Halfway through the day we stopped for lunch and continued on with our explorations. After we were all walked out we grabbed a bus back to Annapolis and ran into lots of traffic … we also drove by a car that was on fire on the highway. We finally made it back to the boats and I’m sure I’ll be in bed early tonight!
Jun 2nd – It was a warm sunny day with moderate winds. We decided to leave our Annapolis mooring ball and head 58 miles north to Chesapeake City and dropped the hook in their harbour. Before we left I needed to make a quick trip to Napa to get an oil filter for my generator. My bike is seized up from all the salt water and air thus Scott lent me his foldup bike which made it a quick trip. We then headed out and stopped for diesel, water and a pump-out and started to head north. We were originally going to stop in Sassafras River, however one of “Last Call’s” friends heard us talking on the VHF and talked us into going to the Chesapeake City anchorage. When we arrived I had to perform an oil change on our generator and then we had dinner. We’ve all decided to get up early tomorrow to head for Cape May. I guess it will be an early night to bed … if that’s possible.
